Hi. A year ago i got a nice planetwaves xlr cable. It works, but 2 of the gold plated insides on the male end is all the way down the holes, while one is all the way up the hole. Is this something that could lead to problems, or is it normal? Also, why does xlr have 3 pins?
It's normal. It's so the earth connects first when plugging it in.

XLR is designed to be run as a balanced cable. A twisted pair with a braided screen connected to earth to provide a Faraday screen. So +,- and earth.
