I bought a weller soldering gun for $42 dollars. Because I want to replace my pickup covers I've read that you need more heat then the cheaper soldering irons can produce.
Then yesterday I read something that said not to use a soldering gun because it could demagnetize the magnets is this true? I hope not because I'm a little pissed at myself about not doing more research before I bought it.

Don't compromise what you want just because the other option is easier. That's how people get stuck with fat chicks.

Love it
There's a difference between a soldering iron and a soldering gun. Guns use a high-current transformer which can demagnetize the pickups. But you'd have to have the pickup right next to the body of the soldering gun for a prolonged period. Irons just have a heating element that runs off the line voltage and won't demag the pickup.
