I've had an ESP-LTD F155DX bass for a couple of years, now I was going to restring it, thought I'd go for real heavy strings so I could downtune properly. So, I went to the local store and got some strings, a normal 0.45-1.05 plus a 1.40 for the low B. Turns out it doesn't fit through the holes on the bridge!
The bass also has a string through body possibility, the string gut stuck there, and pulled the metal "ring" out with it. So basically, know I have a broken bass with no strings.
It's a bass specifically built for metal, and it doesn't fit heavy strings. I think this is ridiculous and will certainly not buy another LTD, ever.

So pit, share your thoughts on this, and tell me why you think LTD sucks.
Also, do you think I should get a refund for the unused string when I bring it back to the store?

Mostly yes, some are quite pretty tough.

How many strings out of the pack have you used? One time I was stupid enough to buy heavy strings for a Hofner (they didn't fit through the eyelets at the top) and they let me trade them for a brand new set despite the package being open.

Anyway, sorry you had such a bad experience bro! My first guitar was an ESP-LTD (F-50) and it worked out just fine except I had to rewire the pickups because they decided to use the least amount of metal possible to ground the wires/attach them to the volume and tone pots and it bugged out on me mid band practice. Good thing it wasn't a week later at our first disastrous gig. That really would have been the icing on the cake.

I'm now playing on a Yamaha which seems to play much better and has held up a lot better (I bought it used. It was already 2 years old and I've been playing it for another 2. Seriously the best $50 I've ever spent).

Anyway, if I were you I'd give ESP Customer Service a ring (if there is such a thing) and see if they'll send you a new one. It sounds like it wasn't really your fault and more whatever dumb shit decided to use Elmar's glue to put together your bass.

I nearly bought an ESP Viper a few months ago, really liked the feel of it but went for the Hagstrom in the end as it was a bit cheaper.
My old signature was too long. Have a daisy.

Luckily, the heaviest string had to be bought separately so it was not a big issue to change it for a lighter one (.135).

mjones, I don't think I'll get a new bass for this It has dropped parts randomly through the years, but now I've had it for over 3 years.

ITT: First world problems.

I've never liked LTD that much. Played one when I was buying my Ibanez and the Ibanez was miles better. If I had the money for an ESP though... *drools*

So you have one of the lowest end LTD's and decide to not buy ANY other LTD because of this one? A bit silly I think, though that does really suck. I mean, I've had a KH-202 for about 5, nearly 6 years, and it's given me less problems in that time than my friend's $900 Ibanez, and outside of pickups it's all still stock.

To be honest, I never really liked the feel of it. I just hadn't tried anything better than that so I thought it was awesome. I was just a newbie metal-kid who "needed" to get a 5-string that looks different than the "normal basses". Now that I know better, I don't really need that low B. So next investment on basses is gonna be a good 4-string, probably a rickenbacker if I don't start to seriously need something better before I can afford one.

That's a low-end beginner model LTD. That's why it's a piece of shit. It's built for players whose expertise doesn't reach beyond Seven Nation Army.

LTD are a budget brand, man. But like Epiphone, they're a higher quality budget brand. Could be worse, you could get BC Rich's Bronze series or Fender's Squire series. If you don't like it, upgrade to an actual ESP or get a Jackson or an Ibanez.

So you'd rather have a CV Tele over an Epiphone Elitist Casino?

You sir, are batshit insane. Unless you bought the Squier just to smash it, in which case, carry on.
