Dear Grampa, you’ve owned this land so long.
But maybe it is time, to say goodbye, to it all.
You ‘ve got 8 children, all of which love you.
But all of them want a piece of the pie.
So please don’t put me in that will.
Sell it all I ask. Let the circle be unbroken.

In the 80s, you held to it fast,
When the world around you, began to crash.
You sold the cows, when prices were down.
I learned to drive, in that old Farmall.
We’ve all shed some tears, and left our blood in the soil.
This ground’s touched us, and we’ve touched it.

After 50 years of marriage, gramma went to rest.
It was the hardest day, of all our lives.
I know your thoughts go to her, in these days.
If she was here, a word she would say.
He that troubleth his own house shall inherit the wind,
and the fool shall be servant to the wise of heart.

We’d all like to see those acres, stay in our name.
But we all know, the family won’t agree.
It wouldn’t be a blessing, but a curse.
So let it go, I do ask.
Won’t you do this for me, dear grampa…

I know the feeling. My family went through the same thing.
