So I'm looking to get a 7 string since I tune so low and stuff

- Location: UK
- Budget: £500 at the most
- Genres: Progressive metal/tech death/doom/sludge, but I use a fair amount of psychedelic cleans too
- Looking to buy new
-Current amp is a Jet City 100hdm if you want to know

-I prefer fixed bridge (tremolos are OK as long as it isn't a floyd rose)
-Can probably rule out Ibanez because thin necks hurt my hands

No other specific preferences, just hoping for a list of names to investigate and explore while I raise the funds

Cheers
I have nothing important to say

I keep whoring this out (it's not mine) but, if you can go used, this would suit you very well:

otherwise, look at some ltd's. You're not gonna get shit if you don't go used, especially if you're ruling out ibanez.

Tone is in the fingers.

What you really need is a new amp.

(Anything I missed?)

I have been hearing about MG amps lately. I have heard good about them, but only a few times have they been talked about here.

My Cort EVL-K47 is 27" scale, has thick neck and is quite affordable and not a half bad guitar atleast for the price I paid from one. Problem is, the pickups are CRAP! Low output muddy pieces of shit. No, seriously, soapbar HZ-7's are nothing short of a scam from EMG to force people into buying their soapbar actives. So be prepared to put a price of EMG 81-7, 707 or phase 2 SD Blackouts on top of that guitar. Atleast on the bridge though then that renders neck pickup useless.

I actually just bought an LTD MH-417 (which is bit over £600 i'm affraid) and i'm really happy with it. It's rather standard (well short for 7-string) 25.5" scale, tune-o-matic bridge, string-thru body, neck-thru, EMG 81-7 and 707, mahogany body w/ maple neck, satin finish, awesome guitar. The neck on it is really comfortable, not overly thin or thick, very nice to play ^^ I'm bit of a sucker for LTD/ESP though ><

Also tried out some ibanez and jackson in similar price range and didn't like the necks at all.

Taken a quick browse on GAK and I couldn't find many outstanding looking seven strings for £500 or less. The only ones I found were:
Schecter Omen Extreme 7: http://www.gak.co.uk/en/schecter-omen-extreme-7-see-through-black/77416
And Schecter C-7 Standard: http://www.gak.co.uk/en/schecter-c-7-standard-black/78387

If you really have to omit Ibanez's that's fine, but I own an RGD 7421 (They're also under £500) and I wouldn't say the neck is too skinny. It sounds and plays really good too. But it's your preference, what you say is skinny I might say is fat. =P
