I got that Peavey Vypyr 15 that I have mentioned a thousand times, and it is gonna fall apart pretty soon. I need a sturdier and better-sounding amplifier for UNDER 600 DOLLARS.
I like the sound of a Marshall or Crate half-stack @ my music school. The are asking $420 for the Crate falf-stack including the head. I would also consider a Fender, Line 6, or even another Peavey! I need some recommendations so I can make up my mind!
(Only had the Vypyr for a year, and the small knobs are ready to fall off!!!)
Actually, could I possibly trade it in towards another amp? I honestly don't know.. Thanks in advance...

do you need higher gain toanz? if not, tweaker 40. im lovin mine. suited to play live up to hard rock, can pull off bedroom metal.

by this i mean, good ass live toanz, its not high gain, if you crank it, it can do some heavier stuff, but keep it between you and your self.

The Peavey Windsor is a pretty sweet amp too, if you're into more marshall like tones. And it's tube powered.

I saw Pantera live once, Dime changed into a body bag right there on stage.

they all sound like great ideas, but I need an amp (more realistically speaking in the American economy) for around $300. I could name a million amps in that price range, I just need some pointers! What sounds BETTER than a Vypyr, but is just as good as a Marshall for a LOW PRICE?

Back up.

What bands/songs have a sound you'd like to get close to?

Whereabouts are you located?

Is your budget $600 or $300? That is a game changing difference.

I have a 20 watt head and a 100 watt head, the 20 will keep up just fine. Wattage does not = volume

Lol, what? Haha better than a vypyr(?) and just as good as a Marshall? At 300? I'm guessing you're talking about Marshall solid state mg series?

I'd pay $600 if I had time. I have a $300 budget, and my current amp is starting to bore me.. I am in the Western Mass area.. I love the sounds of Led Zeppelin, Metallica, Rammstein, Van Halen, Aerosmith l, etc..

go here www.guitarcenter.com/usedgear and you should be able to find a 1x12 Peavey ultra combo for <$250 or a 2x12 ultra for $300ish.

These are great amps and you will not find a better sounding, more versatile amp for your money.

EDIT: There is a 1x12 combo on there now for $200, get it ASAP. GC also has a 30 day return policy on any used gear
