OK so I recently swapped my 1 position preamp tube with 2 and instantly got more gain and sustain. In practice I'm lacking volume though, not sure if its just the cab I'm using there or what but I can barely hear myself over drums with 100w blue voodoo. Ill be bringing my cab tomorrow to see if it is the cab i was using in practice that is shitty and not loud enough or if i have the same problem no matter what i use. Anyway, I have 4 power tubes I want to change but not the cash now. Am I able to just change the two gain tubes? Is thar even how it works? I could care less about clean channel it is never on. I will be swapping out preamps as I can too but was specifically wondering about power tubes and if they r all uses for both channels or or they r split between both channels.
Thx

It sounds like the power tubes are going bad. save your pennies and get a new set ASAP. Actually it sounds like a complete retube is in order for your amp.

OK yea.that's what I was thinking. OK next question, r there different tubes that control only the gain channel so I can replace.only those? I don't have the money sitting around for 4 new power tubes assuming they r $80 and up for four.

Where do you live? I might be able to find you a set of power tubes for $40-$50

I normally don't advise ordering tubes from musicians friend, but a quad of Ruby 6l6 STR is only $49 and you can get them to give you an extra $5-$10 off if you ask. That is the cheapest I can find

www.tubedepot.com has a sale on JJ 6l6 for $26 a pair

get a few 12ax7 also. at least 2 so you can figure out which are causing the problems.

Okay so if I just get a pair of the power tubes are there two spots for the gain channel separate from the clean Channel? Because I only use the gain channel. It would be sweet if I could just swap out two of the power tubes

No you need 4 power tubes, tube depot sells as pairs so you would order 2 pairs. The Ruby tubes are (4) quad set of tubes.

I would also get 2 12ax7's so you can check which preamp tubes are the worst, and change them out.

The gain is coming from the preamp so the 12ax7's. Nothing to do with the power tubes unless you are cranking it loud enough cause them to break up. If you are changing the powertubes definitely go for four. Ruby tubes^ are not that bad and that's a pretty cheap price.
