Hello! I am looking for a new head/cab/or stack, as I feel its time to upgrade my rig.

My Budget: Would like to keep under $900, as I know you can get quite the amplification for that budget

Genres: Mainly Heavy/Thrash metal, such as Metallica, along with some nice cleans. Also stuff like Iron Maiden, Sabbath, etc.

New or Used: I would prefer new, as if I had any issue I could always return it. And warranty.

Home or Gig: This will be used for both, but mainly recording at home (That dosent mean skimp out on size )

Closest City: The "Closest" (As in over an hour) decent sized city to me is Greensboro, NC.

Current Gear: I am about to purchase a new guitar, being either Epiphone 1984 Explorer reissure or an ESP LTD EX-401FM, and that is basically it. No pedals or anything (Yet), might purchase a Protone Merrow or Dead Horse Deluxe pedal though. I have been mainly using the app JamUp Pro XT as my amp simulator because up until this point I haven't had the cash to spend on a new amp.

Some amps that I have heard are decent within this budget: Blackstar's HT Line, Bugera Trirec, Randall KH's, but I am open to all opinions, as I do not know that much about cabs, mainly just combos and heads

I strongly urge you to consider going used.

You can get a great, professional setup for $900 used.

New, $900 will get you a pro cab. Forget about getting a head as well.

For instance, $900 used can get you a Marshall DSL half stack ($300 for a Marshall 1960, $600 for a JCM2000 DSL50/100). That's my immediate recommendation.

Instead of a DSL, you could get a Jet City JCA50/100, which should also do what you want well.

I wouldn't bother with Blackstar or Bugera. Both shitty companies that need to leave the market.

Well, the main reason why I said I would prefer new is that, from what I know, there are not that many metalheads in NC (Except the Greensboro's GC Store manager. He's br00tal and kvlt as can be)

May I ask, what is so bad about Blackstar and Bugera? Ive heard alot of bad rep on Bugera's old stuff, but, none on blackstar.

I have to recommend a used Laney VH100R and a used 2x12 or 4x12. You can get VH100Rs for around $600 all day long and avatar and marshall 4x12s for around $300. Mesa 2x12s can go for $300 often. I prefer those.

Best of luck

Blackstar is bad because they're liars/false advertisers. The HT amps are hybrid amps, yet despite the fact that they have been taken apart and proved to be hybrid, they are still advertised as tube amps. There is nothing wrong with their products, they're just a scummy company.

Bugera (Behringer) on the other hand, is a shitty company because of how hard they cut corners - QC was basically the first thing to go. Many of their amps fail. Stick around here for a week - see how many "My Bugera stopped working" threads there are compared to any other company. They are just very simply, not quality products.

This is just a very very quick search from your Craigslist:

Marshall JCM2000 TSL - $550 http://greensboro.craigslist.org/msg/4143744347.html

Marshall 1960A - see if he'll separate and offer $300 http://greensboro.craigslist.org/msg/4079782900.html

Marshall MF280 - $350 (great, unpopular cabs) http://greensboro.craigslist.org/msg/4066908187.html

And from Guitar Center used (any of this stuff can be shipped to your front door, or your GC if you prefer)

Those on craigslist look pretty nice.

But, I was wondering, has anyone here ever tried/owned/heard the Randall KH120RHS? 3 Channels (Well, 2 with 2 different gain channels), a 4x12 with Celestion Rocket 50's, etc. all for around $850. Is that a good deal? I know of a few artists that use Randalls, such as Scott Ian and Ola Englund (Who is getting a sig), so that makes me feel that it should be a solid stack.

That Hammet Randall is garbage, pass.

The suggestions that Offworld gave you are good, start there. Honestly for new the only the only thing I would feel comfortable recommending is the biggest Jet City you can find for the price, though I doubt you will get much in the way of cleans.

And there are plenty of metalheads in NC, just not out in the boonies (given you are an hour from Greensboro and made no mention of Raleigh I assume you are in the boonies)

How far are you from Charlotte, by the way? They have a lot more stuff to try if it is a reasonable driving distance.
I'm just a kickin' and a gougin' in the mud and the blood and the beer.

Im about 2 hours +/- 30 mins from Charlotte, not a trip I would be willing to make every single day. And im even farther from Raleigh

Yeah I figured you would be a ways from Raleigh. Going to Charlotte might be worth it just to try some more amps. I'm sure they have some non-GC stores as well. You could make a day trip of it
