Thinking about starting a new project. I want to try and do my own version of James' hot rod flame Vs from the load/reload era. I need a good flying V to start with. I can find lots of Vs on eBay and other places. The only problem is they all have pickguards. Does anyone know a brand or model I may be missing that doesn't have a pickguard and has the stop tail tune-o-matic bridge? I don't want to spend a fortune on it as I will be repainting it. I don't have a problem with a kit guitar either, I've done several of those. Maybe I need to go to Warmoth.
Any Ideas?

Warmoth may be a good idea, but you'd have to go used. Warmoth no longer makes the Gibson style V. They do a King shaped one, but if you want Het's style then you need a Gibson shape. So check out on ebay for an old Warmoth V body, then do the paint yourself. You'll also want a pointed headstock, so if you go the Warmoth route you'll need to get a paddle style headstock and shape it to your specs.
