But I really want to talk about ska music and avoid all those Reel Big Fish jokers. Are there any experienced reggae or ska guitarists who could help me get a better grip on the subtleties of this genre. I have the basic idea but I'm looking to take it to the next level.

Learn theory, study the music itself. Autodidactism is the way to go if there is no suitable teacher.

I agree with zaphod. With emphasis on studying and learning the music itself, by ear. Then analyze it in a theoretical way.
