Originally, it started as somewhat of a joke with me and some friends that Eb standard was "the tuning of champions" because so many kickass bands played in that tuning. but now i realize, there really is something kickass about that tuning

for starters, two of the godfathers of thrash, Slayer and Testament, played in this legendary tuning, as well as power metal legends "iced earth" and a lot of other bands who eventually changed to/used the tuning (Metallica, Dream Theater, Megadeth, Motorhead, etc.).

so in honor of these metal gods, i want to start an appreciation thread for any metal band that played, or at least changed to this great tuning (i hope this hasnt been done already. dont be afraid to tell me if this is redundant; just dont be a douche)

C# standard is superior.
I’m not the man I used to be, I... I can’t go back to Arkham.

I... I should return to Arkham.

Among the churchyard’s mouldering stones I recognise a name – my own.
I have come home to Arkham.

Superior? Is there a table of standards and measurements for guitar tuning quality?

I use Eb all the time, it's basically my standard tuning, so I very much approve of this thread.

And now for some poofy-haired Danzig singing to a scary looking chair

Green Day also uses it, so there goes your argument.

Life is much better in D Standard.

Motley Crue.

A quick trip to wikipedia reveals that Green Day also use D standard. As do Fall Out Boy and P.O.D.

I don't think any tuning is free from crappy bands.

Children of the Grave = C# Standard

I prefer Eb Standard as well because my guitar is pretty old and poorly maintained so Eb Standard sounds so much more badass than E Standard. Plus I was a big Iced Earth fan back in the day so I learned pretty much every good Iced Earth song... and they all happen to be in Eb Standard.

Yes. The secret content of this table, also known as the Codex of the Riff, is revealed only to a chosen few.

hey hey now, D and C# standard are undoubtedly great tunings, but this isnt an appreciation thread for them. feel free to make them if you so desperately think theyre more legendary tunings

oh man, truer words have never been spoken about IE. They could've and maybe should've ended it right there. Horror Show is one of the best albums of the 00's.

I always loved the intro (up to 2:27) to this Deicide track:

I'm also pretty sure that this Deceased track is in Eb standard if not the entire discography:

This man clearly has the right answer (Deceased). "Dying in Analog" is one of their best songs in my opinion, and one of the finest metal songs released thus far in my opinion.

if these bands are so "superior" then why have i never heard of any of them?

i got no beef with C# (its actually my main tuning for my 6-string guitar), but this is a thread for legendary bands of a legendary tuning, Eb

you wanna talk about C#? make your own thread. ill happily post there

Congratulations on informing the world you've never heard of Dark Tranquillity or Kalmah. Confirmed for poser.

Yeah, next he'll be telling us he doesn't even listen to In Flames or Children of Bodom... Jesus dude, I'd be proud to say I haven't heard of Kalmah. Unfortunately I have listened to them before not making that mistake again.

One of you has not heard of Kalmah, and the other says Kalmah is crap? I am not a Kalmah fanboy, but I do think they are one of the better melodic death metal bands around today

Man I looked but I read so much shit I cannot remember where I read that at. So take it with a grain of salt for now. I'll eventually find the article where I read that shit.
