So here's my story [forbidden link]

Do you guys think that the meoldy maker is good for a beginner/intermediate ?
#2
You can find my story in the New members Q&A forum topic name: Is it too late to learn how to play ?
#3
It should be. The Melody Maker was designed as a very basic guitar for the Gibson line. It has no bells and whistles, but the build quality is good. I am not crazy about the current incarnation of the guitar: a single cutaway Les Paul shape with what looks like a couple of Fender single-coil pickups, but if you like it, then by all means go for it.

but it says "Gibson" on it so it has to be awesome!

and it has to be far superior to any epiphone ever made because it's a GIBSON!!!!

and way better than those crappy made in japan fake copy lawsuit fake copy guitars that probably fall apart when you string them.

because IT SAYS GIBSON ON IT!!!!!!!!

You would bring Japan into this.

Check out PRS! They not only make superb high-end instruments, but have quality and consistency at the other end of the budget spectrum as well.

^Yes, pretty much any other option would be better, for the price you could literally find hundreds of better options; I literally don't even know the exact price of that guitar now-a-days, I'm just assuming at this point knowing what the modern Melody Maker consists of.

I am looking for a flying v guitar for beginners that is Gibson.

You have 2 options:

1. Get an actual Gibson Flying V
2. Regret not saving up to get one.

I know what you're talking about, but my comment still stands. Buy that guitar and you will regret not buying a '68 reissue.

Why all the Gibson hate? They make great high-end instruments.

If you're on a budget, something else maybe.

Lets see how many headaches we can from a guitar.

Exactly, Am on a 500 USD budget who wants a Flying V guitar. Preferably Fender or Gibson.

i payed $380 for a early 2000's Gothic V, with HSC and case candy. great shape, solid guitar. i also really like the 500t in the bridge. the 496R isn't my favorite in the neck but it gets the job. i would probably put a '57 classic in the neck although there could be volume differences.

guess that's why you sold your Fender V hope you used the cash on a GIBSON. needed a laugh and you provided one.

personally I find the MM to be an overpriced plank. tons of better ways to spend your money.

You know I love you. <3

I'm almost tempted to change my 68's pickguard to black to make it look like a Gothic. That should put how badly I want one into perspective. They're one of the more recent guitar series that have significantly appreciated in value.

Give me your address and you'll never see it (or the Wolfgangs) again.

While I love Flying V's (have 1 in my collection), sitting with it for a lot of guitarplayer's (myself included) annoying after a while.

You always need something on the floor to rest your foot on, or else you get an awkard neck angle and/or tired arm leg.

On the other hand big stretches are easier because of the angle, but imo negligible after a certain skill point.

Made my decision!

Won't buy the melody maker as a starter since so many people here and in other forums said it's not worth 500 USD. Will buy a full package fender guitar that comes with amplifiers, picks, strings and other accessories then when I get more better I will buy an expensive Flying v.

Will let you guys updated on what I buy. First I have to check the guitars at the store here in Kuwait.
#31
No, don't get those starter packs. Get a real guitar and a real amp.

A good V-type guitar for little money is the Jackson RR3. Or you could buy a MIM Fender Strat, or if you're in America an Agile AL-2000 and have $300 for a good amp.

Unrelated (or maybe it is): Gibson SG Specials are pretty decent, right? For a $500 MIA guitar?

In Kuwait the stores don't sell flying V :@

Guys I need to know if getting a Chinese made fender is good or not ? lol

If the stores sell chinese guitars, go for brands that are known for making quality chinese guitars. That means gretsch, hagstrom, maybe epiphone if you buy a Standard series or better, and Squier Classic Vibe or Vintage Modified.

You know what you get when you pay for a chinese squier that says Fender on the headstock? A chinese squier that says Fender on the headstock. The Modern Player Fender guitars are just squiers. I'm going to be charitable and say they're about as nice as a squier Vintage Modified, which is being a bit too kind. Chinese Fenders definitely feel cheap. It's a crapshoot whether you get a good one or not.

And for whatever company you look at, also look at the individual model and don't just go for the cheapest one with that brand name on it. You can get a $200 Gretsch Special Jet, or a $500 Gretsch Electromatic 5120. There's a lot of variation in quality within a single brand.
#34
The thing is that in Kuwait the stores here only sell Fender, Ibanez, and Yamaha guitars.

My favourite brands are Gibson, Fender and BC Rich guitars.

Do you guys think I should order another guitar and forget about the melody maker since it's not worth 500 USD.
#35
be careful of Chinese guitars like that. while the guitars made in china directly for fender and other makers are fine the knockoff ones are usually crap.
#36
Thank's for all the replies guys.

I got me a Jackson JS32 Rhoads w/FR GMG for 280 USD.
Google it. What do you guys think ?
#37
decent guitar sure you'll want a better one down the road but that one should work great for you for now. if possible get it set up by a pro and be sure to look at the Floyd rose thread if you aren't familiar with them as they can be a pain to new users
#38
Cheap guitars with floyds will make you want to rip your hair out. I guess it's too late now though.

The Jackson JS32 Rhoads w/FR GMG is made in India just to let you guys know.

Next guitar will be a Gibson flying V or Gibson SG. Will buy it within the next two years.
