We have a NWOBHM thread, and a Heavy Metal/NWOBHM section in the rec thread, but this thread isn't going to be very narrowly focused.

The point here is to highlight and compile a list of awesome heavy metal obscurities and buried gems.

I'll keep editing this post to keep it pretty.

TO KICK IT OFF:
I've found a ton of cool stuff from you guys, especially Vampire Goldfish, Kepulix (:P) and Powerslave.

Here's a thread on Virtue and Charger, who both rule.
Razorblade put out one very cool single and then died.
If you haven't checked out Traitors Gate yet, DO IT.
Cemetery and Baron Steele are two awesome ones KEP put in an epic 8track for metal forum radio a while back.
Did Severed share this first? Either way FUKIN STORMTROOPER

Anyway, I'll add more to this later, please contribute!

Might as well compile all of PowerSlave's threads, huh?

THE STORY SO FAR
AnnihiSlateR likes BLACK KNIGHT, heavy metal with a female vocalist on most of their stuff who once ripped off Heaven and Hell.

Severed is repping his homies from the US, Tyrant & Warlord, a trio of more obscure bands, Vault probably being my favorite of the three, and finally Kraken from Canada.

Oy, I'll take the credit for that.

Anyway I wholeheartedly approve of this thread. Here's something for you lot:
Fire - Metal Breakdown
Marquis De Sade - Somewhere Up In The Mountains
Tramontane - The Passage

I'll contribute more later.

Am I remembering that wrong, was that your radio? Or did you mention em first around here?

Yep. I just got VG to write the commentary on the tracks.

I just checked an old website that I used to frequent for classic NWOBHM and the likes, will report back tomorrow on what I found.

Gonna have a great weekend going through these links.
Also, I don't think they're forgotten because Give 'Em Hell is legendary, but Witchfynde recently released some old material. I haven't gotten my hands on it yet, but what I've heard is pretty cool, though more proto metal/heavy blues rock kinda feel, so if you enjoyed the proto-metal thread, definitely check it .

Old school garage metal. Wear sunglasses and grow your mullet. Don't listen without these things.

A new band here, but no mention anywhere really. I can see their gem status fading away as we speak!

EDIT: Here's another thread for Arson. Stellar band.

Digging Metal Sword!
Working my way up through the songs here while working, then I'll hunt down some demos this weekend!
Kep, is Fire's second demo as good? With a name like that it's pretty difficult to search

Definitely should man, the first one was AMAZING. I knew about 3 bands but still had an absolute blast.

You can hear the song "Danger" here. The download link for the whole demo has been down a long time, I remember years ago trying to download it there. I guess someone could have uploaded it to Thrashmageddon, but I've long forgotten my password there.

Asking that Strappado guy to reupload it could work as well.

Also that festival looks like absolute killer.

I've tried to get people interested in Gotham City around here before but it never took

Arcosolium
Mirrorthrone
Sunpocrisy
Hallows End
Kardashev
Zero Degree
Sickening Horror

I know a lot more but this is all I can think of off the top of my head.

I've liked them for a while. Quite frankly, I like Anders' voice better in 97 than 84.

Well... they are better, heh.
Although I think the early Gotham City vocals have a lot of charm to 'em, especially songs like Born to Rock Hard

IRON CROSS

Revisited this great band a while ago. Heavy/Power/Speed metal with serious occult vibe that doesn't feel contrived. Some of the most evil and demented (in the best way possible) power metal I've heard.

Everything about this release reeks of classic, I have no idea why they aren't more widely celebrated.

Iron Cross are great!
Good follow up to Iscariot as well.
Digging through this stuff, Kyto... I love that Shark album cover.

EDIT:
I posted this in the power metal thread as well, but still

That was surprisingly good. I'm always skeptical of these 80's metal bands making comebacks.

The production sounds quite unfinished, though. I hope that's not how it sounds on record. Or is the whole thing finished already?

I'm not positive, but I think this is the final mix.
They've done a small early run of cds to sell at shows already...
However, the songs on youtube sound a bit thinner than the ones the band uploaded on their reverbnation thing.

Also, best to be skeptical with this kind of thing, yeh, but some have pulled it off.
New Satan is great!

I can't say I'm very excited now after hearing those songs. War Machine was good, but the others were pretty average and April downright bad.

Satan proved it's possible to make very NWOBHM sounding music that's still fresh.
