I wanna make a one string bass, tuned to an A one octave below the A on a 4 string ( like Fieldy does ).

Sadly, I have no tuning machine for a bass and I'm not really willing to buy a single tuning machine.

Do you have an idea what I could use instead of it?

In addition, what should I use for the saddle and the nut?

Thank you very much.

Maybe a fishing reel?

I would only use a mechanical or slip tuner(like on cellos as stated above). Trying to figure out anything else would just be to painful for how cheap tuners are or finding someone with a junk bass.

Slightly off topic as I don't know of what you are trying to do but I'd just build a whamola like claypool. I've been meaning to do it if I'm bored hunting this weekend I may give it a shot.
