Hello all,

Simple question: I want to record and listen back to what I've just played.

Obviously a tape recorder would suffice, but is there an easier solution. I would have thought something would exist but I cant find it.
You just want to hear what you did? Do you have a smartphone with a voice recorder app?

If you're actually trying to record/structure/layer/distribute a song, you'll want to invest in one of many different dedicated approaches.
Telecaster - SG - Jaguar
Princeton Reverb, Extra Reverb
P-Bass - Mustang Bass
Apogee Duet 2 - Ableton Suite
^ +1. That's what I do. I've got a good recording rig, but damn... if it's just to record and hear something back or to keep an idea or whatever, it takes me about 15 seconds to set up the voice record app on my phone.

Could I get some more talent in the monitors, please?

I know it sounds crazy, but try to learn to inhale your voice. www.thebelcantotechnique.com
