Be careful on what Ampeg and Behringer stuff you are looking at. You mean for amps?

I'd also be super careful about buying cheap cabs/speakers. They can ruin an otherwise decent amp.

Where in California are you, I might be able to find something for you. I'm in the Midwest BTW.

Sounds like you more of less want a half stack, unfortunately, there won't be much for $500.

I have a Vypyr Tube 60 that I paid $300. Hard to beat at that price. Loud when you need to be loud and quiet when you need to be quiet. Fairly articulate with the built in gate.

maybe check out the Bugera 333xl or 6260? I remember a couple of years ago they had some quality issues but they may have been fixed since then. Haven't looked at them in a couple years but they always had a sick metal sound.

No, they still have issues and it still seems like more than the average
I just sold a 333 head, it had been in the shop to get fixed of multiple issues. I will not recommend them at all

Wow, you are out there

Don't know much about the V2 - can't really comment.

Here is random stuff to consider though:

http://reno.craigslist.org/msg/4197164063.html TSL combo
http://reno.craigslist.org/msg/4113980329.html Valveking combo
http://reno.craigslist.org/msg/4103748347.html Mesa DC5 combo
http://chico.craigslist.org/msg/4225349986.html DSL combo
http://chico.craigslist.org/msg/4213943043.html Peavey XXX head

I'd go after that DC5 combo if it is not already sold. That XXX head would be nice too but it is way overpriced. Most things on Craigslist you have to haggle down anyway.

Keep in mind that combos can be turned into 'heads' if you are crafty and keep in mind what I said about cabs. I'd rather have a decent 212 cab with good speakers vs a mediocre 4x12 cab. Ask what speakers things have in them and then report back. We'll let know.

That V2 may be worth it, I just don't have any experience and can't even recollect anyone here talking about it either positively or negatively.

Good luck,

Yeah, I'd jump on the DC5. They're supposed to have some characteristics of the Mark series, which I love, so I'm biased but that is one heck of a deal.
#16
Hmm thanks for post and links. I have also been looking into some solid state stuff. i don't know should i venture down that path?
#17
no

i wouldn't

not for metallica and COB

it will sound too harsh, processed and mechanical

you need some give n take, some sag, some natural harmonics, fluid leads, etc

the closest i'd get to SS for this (in my opinion) is the Vypyr 60.

or Axe Fx/Eleven Rack/Pod HD but that is a different deal

I just picked one up for $50 that's stuck on the distortion channel.
