So a fellow friend of mine has a BC Rich guitar on which he has EMGs with pickup rings. He was complaining the other day how those shattered and need to be replaced so I started wondering, has this happened to you?

I've never broken a pickup ring, but I've certainly seen my share. Most of them happen when some goofball doesn't realize that the flat-bottom rings need to be shaped to fit a carve-top. Instead, he'll just torque down on the corner screws, bending the rings in the process. As the plastic ages (sometimes well before), the rings will get brittle and eventually break.

hmm his rings seem to be flush with the body though, it's the factory rings.

I guess they got shattered cause of the picking technique
