These are the definition of neutral and affordable headphones. Great for monitoring.

I was in the same search you were in about a month ago. After doing much research, I bought some Audio Technicas. I was a little iffy because Ive never been a big fan of the brand, but holy poop are these headphones amazing.

Audio Technica ATH-M50s are the name of these headphones. They're $150.
Has even highs, mids, and lows. Makes me happy.

Traditional industry standards (walk into any recording studio and you're likely to encounter at least one of these): AKG240D, Sennheiser 280, BeyerDynamic 770, Sony 7506. All within your price range.
