Ok. I need some one that knows about amps.
I just bought a Marshall 1959slp used and put it on top
Of my Orange ppc 2x12. The head keeps blowing the fuse.. Now the
Guy that sold it to me is trying to tell me its my cab. Either its
The way the speakers ate wired or it cant handle the power.
The cab is 120w/16ohm and the head is set to 16ohm.
I think the guy is full of crap and making excuses. Any thoughts?
Friken ebay,never again!

that is total BS. as long as the cab is working then you shouldn't be expecting any problems. a stock ppc212 has the right numbers for the 1959.

the head keep blowing fuses cuz something is wrong with it. i wouldn't keep feeding it fuses cuz you may make the problem worse.

there is no way the cab is the problem, return the amp and get a refund.

What I don't get(and is the only reason I bought off ebay) is the guy
let me pick the amp up from his house. And whats more, his house probably
cost more than i'll make on a life time. I mean he lives in pretty posh neighbor hood.
Why would somebody with that kind of money set out to screw someone?
I just don't get it. I just talked to hom. Hes stoll making excuses but it sounds
like he's gonna give me my money back. I guess we'll see tomorrow.

I couldn't agree more. But that's ebay. Auctions seem like
you'll save money, but then you have to deal with this....lesson learned!
But there's also buyer protection on ebay as well. The amp was listed
as "Pristine condition". So l should have no problem filing a case with
ebay should he Decide to not refund my money. But it's just the hassle of it all.

I doubt it is a serious issue. If you really like the amp then maybe get him to knock a couple hundred bucks off and then get some new tubes like Cath is saying or worst case take it to a tech.

Did you have an amp before plugged into the exact same spot?

You are using a speaker cable I assume, not a guitar/fx cable?

You can test the cab with a multimeter - won't be perfect but better than nothing.

Did the guy have other amps as well?

Do you really like the 1959SLP Reissue? I didn't dig it so much. Bought a Splawn instead

If you return this one and want 'New Amp' help let us know.

PS: Take a friend or let people know where you are going - the guy may be a flake.

Well,my cab is brand new. Only about a month old. I had my Fender Bassman 50
running through it and it works perfect. Monster amp to cab cabel, check. He said he had
other amps, just this one was too loud for home playing and he doesn't play out any more
(the Usual B.S). I only stepped into his foyer for a minute to see the head had no physical
damage and then I was off. No chance to see that he had anything else.
The only reason I bought this particular amp is because I couldn't find a Laney Supergroup.
Supposedly these amps have the exact same Circuit, just different transformers.

Whenever buying a used amp, you should expect to replace tubes, especially power tubes. Throw some JJ's into it.

But the amp should at least work out of the gate unless it is advertised as needing new tubes.

Hey https://www.ultimate-guitar.com/forum/misc.php?do=getsmilies&wysiwyg=0&forumid=33#

I saw your Supergroup thread but had no insight.

I would have arranged to play the amp first. Always.

If he is truely interesting in working this out then tell him you need $100 back to go buy new tubes with and some time (3 days or whatever) to get tubes and see what happens. If it blows a fuse again with all new power tubes then I would consider getting a full refund. If it works it works and you can close this chapter.

Personally, I think you should get a Splawn They are built better, have better components, sound better, and can be had cheaper (at least in the US). Used Splawns start at around $1,000 and are $2,100 new.

Or - play our 'What Amp' game we'll find you something else.

PS: your link you posted is for the smilies

I Completely agree with you. The first thing I thought to myself
was it's probably only the tubes. And I would throw a new set of tubes
in. But what if it's not the tubes. Also,I bought the amp as it was listed
in Pristine perfect working order. And if that is what i'm paying for, that's
what I expect to get. If ebay didn't have buyer protection then I might expect
less as there ate a lot of cons in this world. But I guess you're still taking
a chance buying from there. And who knows, maybe the buyer protection
isn't worth a crap either.lol Either way, I don't want to Return the amp but
at the same time I don't want to get screwed.

I'd throw some SED's in it.
