"Can you play Wonderwall ?" or switch with any generic guitar pop song.

My mum is always telling me that to be a"real" musician I will have to learn pop songs to take requests when performing, I try to tell her that I want to be in a real band and write my own music, not a karaoke singer down the local pub.

You guys got any ?

Edit: Oh, and I always get "You should enter The X Factor/The Voice/ or any other tv talent show."

It's not that, it's just these type of people think that performing covers down the local is the be all end all of music.

Nobody thinks that, they just want you to stop masturbating and play something that they want to listen to if you have to insist on being that guy and playing around people.

I'm not one of those people, I don't tell people I play guitar because I know that i'm going to get asked stupid questions,

"What's the hardest song you can play?"

If it's hard, I can't play it yet. If I can play it, it isn't hard anymore. You mean, 'what's the song that I can play that you imagine would be hard for you to play if you played the guitar'? I dunno probably some metal shit that you'd hate to listen to anyway.
Listen. I'm sorry.

I don't really advertise the fact that I play guitar, and if I do make a comment relating to the fact that I'm in 19 or so bands with the same 6 friends, only in different combinations, everyone laughs and we move on.

The only time I play is if I'm drunk, and then it's mostly Johnny Cash.
This ends now, eat the goddamn beans!

Most people I know don't know nor care that I play guitar. If someone asks me I will be honest though.

OP is right about "Can you play (insert generic pop song here)".

And the second most common is "Whats your hardest/best?"

Most annoying I ever hear:

"Do you play acoustic or electric?"
Ahah, yeah, it is a pretty stupid question; but I actually like being asked this one, because then I can respond,

"Yes."

and the person who asked gets all confused.
Listen. I'm sorry.

Why don't you play real music?

Why dont you on a talent show?

Play song x....

Turn it down blah blah blah.

"That song sucks, play something cool."

"How long does it take to practice before you're any good at it?"
#22
Good questions:

How long have you been playing?
What guitar are you playing?
You're so hot, can you take off my clothes?

Bad questions:

Do you play acoustic or electric guitar?
Do you own a Fender?
Why don't you play the drums?
Why do you like death metal?

If someone requested me to play Wonderwall, I'd do it, and sing with a ******ed voice.

EDIT:

Good questions:
What's your favourite band?
Are you influenced by Frusciante or Hendrix?
How'd you learn to sing?

Bad questions:
Who are you?
What are you doing in my bedroom?
How'd you get my number?
My door was locked, how'd you get in?

Once at school we had to do this extra curricular program with people from the girls school across the road (I went to an all boys school) and a guy who had just found out I played asked me in front of all these girls "would learning guitar make me better at fingering birds ?"

I told him it would

The one I hate most is when someone, usually super drunk girls, say "omg I want to learn to play guitar, teach me something"

After about the 30th time I was asked, I learned the intro to bangarang. Nobody asked me after that

A couple of weeks ago I seen a junkie asking a busker about learning to play guitar, the guy was trying to jam over a slow blues backing track but every time he'd start the guy would start asking questions again .

Gone @ 4/5

At this point if anyone asks me anything about guitar I just say ' i dont play guitar' (unless they're paying). but damn lol @ that 'yes' response... i gotta remember that
