I'm super picky but I want to listen to more stuff and, as the title implies, I will have a large amount of time to dedicate to listening to music pretty soon.

I like primarily guitar-oriented music, generally with a high level of musicianship and complexity involved but more generally anything that sounds unique or anything that is incredibly well-written.

The majority of what I listen to is contemporary metalcore/progressive metal (like the first half of the following list) but recently I've been expanding my tastes away from heavier music and into stuff that's more catchy (like the second half of the list).

Some bands I'm really into right now off the top of my head:

Between the Buried and Me
Misery Signals
The Schoenberg Automaton
The Contortionist
Lower Definition
CHON
A Lot Like Birds
Minus the Bear
Thank You Scientist
This Town Needs Guns (or more recently just TTNG)
Little Tybee
Hail the Sun

If you haven't heard of anything on that list it'd be cool if you felt like maybe youtubing a song and recommending anything you think sounds similar. If the band has been around a while rec a specific album, please. Either way, thanks in advance, hopefully I'll stumble across a few gems on this incredibly long car ride.
My band, Escher
My progressive rock project, Mosaic

Albums ive been listening to lately that are sorta similar to what you listen to:

Boysetsfire- After The Eulogy
Their/ They're/ There- S/T
Senses Fail- Renancer (Departure from what you probably associate them with)
Broadcast- Guidelines
Prawn- Ships (The song "Costa Rica" is probably my song of the year for me)

A lot of the reason I consider myself "picky" is that there's a lot of stuff I tolerate, or enjoy to some degree, but would never actively put it on if I was listening to my ipod or putting music on in the car or whatever. That's pretty much what everything in that list falls under, although a lot of it I enjoyed musically but was put off by the vocals somewhat. I should also mention I don't really see the appeal of most emo, punk, and hardcore music.

Perhaps throw some Shai Hulud in there?

Reach Beyond the Sun is a great entry point, then perhaps That Within Blood Ill-Tempered ?
