Any one seen The Broken Tower by James Franco? He's releasing As I Lay Dying and Child of God this year and both are quite good books so I'm looking forward to them both. Think Franco has real potential as a director, I'm hoping that he delivers. The Broken Tower was nearly great.

I feel like Iwo Jima is only for people who really like World War II. Maybe because I watched it in World War II last year but I didn't see much of merit apart from the historical story maybe being interesting which I personally didn't care for tbh.

I haven't seen The Broken Tower, but As I Lay Dying is on American Netflix if you're interested (I know you're British, but I know you guys have ways of getting to American Netflix).

Sick, it's online for stream anyway. I'm a bit surprised it didn't get a cinema release though.

I think it showed for a little while in a few indie theaters over here, but it didn't get anything nearing a wide release. I'm not that surprised though. It wouldn't have made any money.

Finally watched Evil Dead 2 after wanting to almost my entire life

It was perfect. I think Evil Dead is probably my favorite trilogy ever

I couldn't get into it last night but I think that was just because it was subtitled. I've got nothing against a subtitled movie but I was just shattered last night and didn't have the attention span to read. I do like Clint Eastwood as a director though so I'll go back to it when I'm more in the mood.

Chucked on Spider-Man 3 in the background. Peter should have ended up with his landlord's daughter.

EDIT: I actually love the dance sequence.

I remember being about ten years old and dying of embarrassment in the theater at that dance scene.

Watched The Missing Picture yesterday. I don't know if it has had an earlier release anywhere else, but I definitely recommend it. The descriptions i read before i saw it were suggesting that there is animation, but its actually mostly just scultpure/tableaus which the camera moves about and the director narrates. Really nice experience.

**** yes. Despite months of barely posting, I ended the last thread just barely ahead of Lolmnt for most posts. BOOYAH.

edit: In about 30 minutes I'll find out if I have the time to watch a movie today. If I do, it's between Oldboy, The Master, Ministry of Fear, or Stardust Memories

edit 2: Or Raiders of the Lost Ark. TBH, it'll probably be Raiders. I'm horrible.

i'm into korean films at the moment and want to see the vampire movie "Thirst" anyone seen it?

its by the director of Oldboy which is awesome

Hell yeah. I thought it was alright (for him), pretty good in general. A bit long. Visuals are stunning as always. Quite funny at times too. Apparently it's the first Korean movie to have a penis in it or something.

I think Oldboy's on netflix. Gunna either watch that or Blue Velvet. Both have those mystery moods I think so I'm not fussed either way.

No don't watch Oldboy on Netflix. The voice dub is unbearable.

Watch with subtitles instead.

edit: woah they changed it so that it's original audio with subtitle. Pleasant surprise!!!!

...modes and scales are still useless.

When I got Oldboy on DVD I shat myself because it played the dubbed version by default. It really is an awful dub but so is any live action dub really.

Most of them anyway.

Do I need to see The Hobbit in IMAX 3D HFR, IMAX 3D or is regular digital 3D just fine too?

You need to see it in 2D. As my final words in the last thread said, '3D is never worth it'.

The worst thing for me on 3D movies is when they have those shots that were clearly made just for 3D and then you watch them in 2D. It looks so weird and gimmicky.

I'm with you, 3D is never an option and I only go for 3D when there are no other choices for me.

I watched Enough Said and The Loved Ones the other day. enough said was p good, a little bit predictable but most romance-comedies are. Still, it was funny.
The Loved Ones was funny in a black-comedy type way. Was expecting it to be more gorey based on what i had read beforehand.

I wanna see it in HFR but I'm skeptical. I see that HFR version actually has better reviews, but it isn't it still pretty controversial? Like its so high res that it makes stuff look fake?

I saw it twice in 2D and I only wanted to see it once... And I regretted it after the first viewing. But it was free so I can't complain. Actually, yes I can. I could have used those gift cards on a better movie. Boooo!

I have to agree. Way too much CGI in it and they didn't do a good enough job of masking it. And what the hell was with the whole GoPro looking shots during the barrel scene? Did they really think that was a good idea? Especially since it was the only point in the movie where they used it. I just think it was altogether a very sloppy job. Wasn't as good as the first film, and the first film was only barely more than mediocre.

Just don't see it and form opinions about it, like me!

But, on the CGI topic, I've been watching the star wars prequels on Spike (mainly as background noise), but I don't think I'll ever understand why they needed so much CGI in it. Like there's that show on SYFY where they do make up and masks and stuff and there's amazing stuff done. With Lucas' budget, there's no excuse for it.

Basically, I understand some CGI, but I'll never understand characters being CGI. Or why they had to be in front of a CGI waterfall in episode II.

^^ Especially when you consider the borderline miracles Lucas and his team worked on the original trilogy with little more than models. I hope they don't go down the prequel route with the new ones.

I was watching Episode II yesterday, and omg Hayden Christensen's acting. I came in right before a monologue about his mom dying and it was hilarious. It was worse than a high school play. It was as if they put me on camera. I loved it.

^ that. I loved the new one's as a kid and when I watched it recently it was so goddamn cringey I had to switch over.

Can't argue with that. The original trilogy still looks a lot better than the prequels though.
