I am thinking about recording a cover for Suicide and Redemption by Metallica, and was wondering what the UG community thought were the best settings for this song? I have a Squire Bullet with triple single coils, a First Act M2A-110, and I am running it through a Danelectro FAB Metal pedal. Poor man's guitar rig right there, lol.

I don't like being as dismissive as I'm about to be but...

You're not going to get that tone with that gear. It's just not going to happen.

x2. First, you have guitar with single coils. Second your amp is a small practice amp and a distortion pedal with sharp fizzy sound.

For proper metal sound you need humbuckers and an amp with 12" speaker. Smaller ones simply sound wimpy. Also Metallica uses boosted Mesa Rectifier amps, so to get an approximation of that tone you'd need an amp with very chunky (preferably tube) distortion. Or a good modeler. But even a modeling device there is only so much that small combo can deliver.

Cheapest option would be going all digital and trying out some of the free amp simps that you can use on your DAW recording software. Like LePou Lecto Mesa model with Tubescreamer model and some free cab impulse of some cab with G12-T75 speakers in it.

What you really need is a new guitar and a new amp. Seriously though, you're just not going to sound like Metallica with a setup like that. You need a guitar with humbuckers (at the very, very least) and you need a much, much beefier amp.

Do you have an iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch? If so, consider downloading JamUp Pro XT and the buying the connector for it. It will sure give you the amp tone, but, the single coils might still be a problem.
