Got my new left handed B.C. Rich JR V Icon today. Unboxing it was really cool. She really is a beauty. The strings that came from the factory were said to be 9-42, even though I can tell thats not what the low E was. It had to be at least a 46.

I have to give the floyd rose 1000 credit, because dive bomb after dive bomb, it has held itself in tune. I do have a few problems with the guitar though. First off, the floyd was NOT 100% flush/parallel with the body. I'd say it was maybe 93%. I know this because I held up the guitar horizontally and when I did a slight dive on it, the floyd appeared to be perfectly parallel with the rest of the body. A set up should fix this, and I need one anyway, because I want to tune the guitar down to C.

My next problem is the pickup. YES, I am a hugeeeeeeee metal-head, but I dont really like EMGs... This isnt a problem on the manufacturers part, or anything like that. This was the first time in a while that I played an EMG (always been a big duncan fan) and I wasnt really pleased. I mean, it has the fire, and it has the force.... hell, it even has the power to make it's evil take it's course!!!

Butttttttt, I don't know man.... It's just too damn sterile and solid statey...

They inlcuded an extra spring for the back of the floyd rose, so that will come in hand when tuning down to C with 13s. As for the new pickup, I know that I'll have to replace the pot. I have never done this before, but I will give it a try. I will sell the 81, and purchase something from seymour duncan.

Either an invader, or a distortion. I have to contact my seymour duncan dealer though, because the color scheme of the guitar is black and red and I dont like having the duncan logo in white, soooo for like an extra ten bucks, I think I'll be able to order the pickup with the bobbins red and the logo in black. It'll look killer. Now I just have to decide on which model. I think they will both sound great, butttt the invader would look sicker.

Lastly, this is my first time actually owning a guitar with a floyd. I had a few old RGs with the shitty ass "low pro" trem system that ALWAYS went out of tune. As stated above, my floyd stays in tune, but it is a new feeling of not being able to palm mute as hard as you want on the guitar. This is something that I'm trying to get used. You have to find the sweet spot right above the pickup, I guess.

What I want to know though, is this... Obviously, the manufacturer isnt going to adjust the action a certain way for the individual before the item sells, so If I go to my tech and say "Hey man, low action and nice and tight tension" there should be a nice improvement after I get the guitar back, right? Because something just doesnt feel right.

First: Pictures!

You might like Lace Alumitone Deathbuckers instead.

But I'd be remiss if I didn't also suggest the RailHammer Anvil (made for bridge only) and/or Chisel. Or Tesla Plasmas or Nitros.

Log off and play yer guitar!

Grats man! Both of my BC Rich's were setup when I got them in the mail. Which isn't a big deal really since I always have to re-set it up after after I drop the tuning. It might be best if you learn how to do it because it's really not that hard and will save you money every time you need to do one.

I just put a SD Black Winter pickup in my Bich and it will probably do what you want for metal, check them out.

What did you guys wanna see pictures of? How the floyd wasnt 100% flus

@Blackfire; Thank man! Yea I really wish I could learn how to handle all of my floyd problems. I know I could learn to set the intonation, but adjusting the string action.. idk... Sounds really difficult, and kind of risky if the truss rod is involved...

Changing strings will be a breeze once I get it set up though, so that should be good. Can I get the black winter in red? Does SD offer that?

It's a lot easier than you think. You shouldn't have to mess with the truss rod. Just watch some vids on Youtube, search 'how to setup a floyd rose' and do some research. It's good to know these things as a guitar player IMO.

The Black Winters as far as I know only come in black. Not sure if they would make you a red one or not. But they are good pickups for metal. Enjoy your guitar.

Pics would be nice too lol!

Im trying to upload the pics but it wont let me... wtf!!! A little help here guys. How do I directly upload the photos of the guitar that are already on my computer into a post?...

Btw, have any of you guys ever used the tremel-no system? Im thinking about getting one for this V. I have to call the company and find out exacly what hardtail mode does. If it actually makes it so that you can palm mute as hard as you want with the floyd going outta tune, then I have to have one.

Upload the pics to a site like Photobucket then you can post the links to show the pics in your posts.

I would suggest learning how to palm mute not so hard so in the future you will be able to play any guitar.

It's hard to tell from the blurry pic but your Floyd looks ok. It doesn't have to be flush, only parallel with the body. How high or low the Floyd sits depends on the action you want.

So with lower action, which I would be asking for if i took it to a tech, would mean that the the floyd would be lower?

This might explain why I am having trouble getting used to palm muting with the floyd...
It's harder to palm mute fast with higher action. Maybe I'll like the feel of it when I get it set up properly. That way, I dont have to have it blocked off.

Palm muting is a right hand technique, and the action should not affect this at all.
