Lets bring 'shall' back, shall we?

'Shall' is so nonchalant, so suave, so genuinely powerful. 'Will' is so melodramatic, so effortful, so anticlimatic.

Some of the greatest declarative moments in history have hinged on this Rolls Royce of auxillary verbs:

*You shall not pass!
*Thou shall not covet.
*We shall overcome!
*We shall fight them on the beaches.
*Shall we fornicate without lubrication?!

Yet we live in a world where 'will' is used rampantly, almost conspiratorially, adding to the underwhelming excesses of the spoken word.

We need your help. Please use the word 'shall' at least once a day to ensure that it does not meet the same grim end as its late sister 'shalt'. Our verbs are our future. Cut back on the 'will' and we shall lay the foundation for a tomorrow that is slightly classier than today.

We can and we...

That's right.

On the come up we were listening to Grateful Dead and the music started passing through my bowel and out my arsehole as this violet stream of light. I shat music. It was beautiful.

What do you mean bring back? I say shall all the time.

It implies a kind of unity, which I like. Saying 'shall we' instead of 'will you' gets much more cooperation, I find.
