Why go for the higher watt, more expensive amps if it's mostly for home use? AC15 or a TM18 combo would be fine. Trust me, I've had an AC15 and currently use a TM18 head and cab, they're loud enough for small gigs.

As to sound though, either would do as they both take pedals well, and pedals are really how you're going to get such a variety in tone. Try and play both and just decide which you like the sound of more. My money would be on the H&K though, those blue bastards have got some glorious cleans.

Not a hijack but more of a clarification: Can a Vox ac30 really get Iron Maiden and/or Metallica tones with the gain cranked?

+1 for the H&K considering all the tones you're trying to get

Either of them is going to need some pedals but the AC30 is a better base tone.

I haven't played the Vox but I really liked the Tubemeister 36 and will snag one when I see a nicely-priced, used one. Given the various bands/tones you're after, the versatile 36 will help. The thing is also very light and most of the weight is because of the over-sized transformers.

Half of the bands you mentioned USE AC30's, so if you're looking to get as close as possible to those tones then it's obviously the best choice to get an AC30.

Then just get a couple pedals for the heavy stuff and you're set.

hey, be nice to the hipster.
I hear they use false bypass switches.

It's, like, so ironic.
