jazzmasters are quite unique in their tone and overall range, i used to own the 62avri and it was a love hate thing, that being said with a decent fuzz i dont see why it couldn't reach a Sleep tone. If you typically live on the neck pickup then a jazzmaster is a great choice and they are one of the few vintage spec guitars that when you are in the middle position it is a humbucking effect. They hardly have any sustain though so if screaming liquid solos are your thing then id look elsewhere. Last thing i can say is make sure you spend some time auditioning one before you buy it, i have a lot of musician friends who saw "X" musician play a jazzmaster and impulse bought one only to sell it a few months later. They are great guitars but seem to have a mysticism around them that creates a short lived gas for a lot of people.

I thought you were going to ask about his Yamaha sig!

My feeling is that you could get the sound you're searching for with that guitar with the right pedals & amp...and many other axes as well.

If you like that aesthetic, you might consider these P90 equipped guitars. They're pretty damn good, and cost enough less that you'd be able to get some dope pedals & amp in your quest for Sleep...
