Summoner: Psychedelic stoner doom with riiiiifffffffsssss mofo

#1
Posting about these kickass local guys because my band has the honor of sharing a stage with them tomorrow.

Who takes delicious doom riffs and tops them with tasty harmonies and then bakes in a succulent psychedelic atmosphere? Summoner fucking do, and they do it well. Imagine the grooviness of Kyuss with the melodicism and lead guitar work of Valkyrie, and you're in the ballpark. They list "slingin' riffs" in their band interests, and damn do they sling riffs.

They've released two albums under their current name. Both sound as their titles imply; Phoenix emphasizes the traditional Sabbath influence, grooving with the desert sun's hazy heat with occasional forays into outer space. Atlantian is cooler and more languid, incorporating some slightly proggy tendencies courtesy of Intronaut and Red Album-era Baroness.

They also released an album called Mercury Mountain under their previous name Riff Cannon. If you're doubting the quality of an album released by a band called "Riff Cannon," shame on you.

Let Summoner lead you through the smoke toward the riff-filled land, my brethren.

Yep heard the one you (?) posted on the rec thread - pretty good it was too...will have a go on their other stuff later.

The first song you linked here (and in general the vibe) reminded me a lot of an Indian band I saw last year at Bangalore

Ooh, I really dig this. The Thin Lizzy is strong with these guys.
