I'm looking to get a PA system, for singing as also recording with a band. Nothing too expensive, between 150-300. Can anyone help?

Harbinger and Kustom make a few models in that price range (all-in-one packages). Take a look, if they are available near you.

Mackie stuff should do, though a 150-300w PA is reeeally small, y' know.
I mean, last time I gigged with 2x175w active speakers in a small place where people shouted and so on, I really thought "I'd better use something bigger next time".
Name's Luca.

Clue: amplifiers amplify so don't turn it on if you need quiet.

^ he wants $150-300 for price (maybe not dollars but money)

That will be almost impossible to do and get something that sounds decent. Look at NADY as well as what fatalGear recommended

at that budget, if you have access to craigslist, (used)
that'll probably get you the most for your money.

I think you're severely underbudgeted.

I would go as far as saying that's the only way to do it within budget. You can get lucky some times with used PA gear. They're the sort of thing that gets nagged into,
"I don't care, just get rid off it, it takes up room, you're never going to use it," and so on and so forth ad infinitum.
"OK, OK, somebody please just take it. Just make it end!!!!"

But seriously, used is the only way to go with that budget and even then you're gonna have to be lucky.

Jen, how much do those Yamaha rigs like yours and my ex-guitarist's go for on the used market over yonder?

my stagepas was about $450-475usd? something like that.
I bought it about a hundred off because it was refurbished/new from a guitar chain. maybe about 4 years ago?
came with everything, even the stands.
I've used it constantly wt no issues.
I'm a huge fan of yamaha.

edit: holy crap, just looked on ebay and they get $600 new $450 used.

You're not kidding. I've got a pair of big old Altec Voice of the Theater A7s sitting in storage that were part of a long-ago PA system. I used them as "bookshelf speakrs" in a photo studio for a while, and they're enormously efficient and nicely directional. But they're also big.

I've got a full-blown nag ongoing to get rid of them, and honestly, I don't anticipate using them for anything in the future and I'm at the "Just make it end" point myself.

In short, Cathbard's on the money; haunt the used market and you'll find literally truckloads of gear.

Indeed, and PA's are something a band will buy communally and they can be keen to settle up fast resulting in bargains to be had.
