So in a few month I'll be getting a NZ$3300 tax break. Which is approx US$2600. Or GBP1600.

I've decided to finally buy a nice quality guitar. Something that built damn well and will last me till I'm an old fart.

Stats.

Price range. US$2500 / GBP 1600. I'm living in New Zealand, so Ill be buying here. Unless I can find a good deal and ship over. NZ$3300.

Fave artists. Lots. Mark termonti, David gilmour, Paul Gilbert, Guthrie Govan, Alter bridge, rise against, incubus, bad town, cancer bats, trivium, deftones, RHCP, bucket head, I really listen to a broad range, but these are examples of my main preferences.

Preferences. Maple neck unless I decide on a les Paul. Im thinking along the lines of an american start/tele, les Paul traditional if I can squeeze my budget, PRS (although these are very exp in New Zealand, my budget would allow S2 range). Open to other brands too, I'm not super clued up on this stuff. Passive pups. Something to add to my current gear, that can open new tonal doors while still doing what current can do, if poss.

Definatly new. With hard case.

Location is New Zealand as mentioned.

Current gear.

Schecter omen6 with PRS tremonti pups.
PRS se custom semi hollow
The usual average pedal board.
Mesa express 5:50 2x12 combo with vintage 30's and JJ's tubes.

With such a wide range of music tatse you could possibly benifit from getting two cheaper but still extremly good guitars for the price , for example maybe a Fender Baja telecaster and a gibson led Paul studio. Both should fit into your budget

i was thinking this as well at first but he wants this to be his last him for the rest of his life guitar, not to bash mim fender's or les paul studio's but there is a noticeable quality difference imo

Cheers reverb. Those look lovely.

Nmci, I considered this. However my schecter kicks arse, on the same rig my friends PRS tremonti sig sounds almost identical. I've owned many cheaper guitars n its time to buy one good quality one now.

You could do worse than these Godins, especially since the Freeway is on clearance:

(You might even ask them if they could get a Godin Passion.)

The same store also carried a used G&L Legacy. No pix, though. Still, G&Ls are great guitars.

Also, check out Ormsby guitars. Their stuff ranges from customizable standard designs (like Carvin or US Masters would do) to full custom.

The standards are found here:
