Hey all. I've had a Fender American standard strat for a few years now, and I'm a bit unsatisfied with the sound. When I was young and foolish, I put a Duncan SH-4 in the bridge so I could use it for heavier music. However, for me the sound is far too harsh and trebly. Also the original neck and middle pickups are (obviously) really quiet by comparison, which makes switching pickups a pain in the ass. These days I'm mostly into psychedelic rock and stoner rock type stuff, which can get pretty 'heavy' in a retro sort of way. I still want to be able to play blues and have a pretty authentic 'strat' tone, but would like something hotter than the stock pups. But not SH-4 hot. I have another guitar for more 'modern metal' stuff. So basically I'm asking for recommendations

PS, I have a Fender Hotrod Deluxe and a Peavey Valveking, both of which I'm happy with. Before the inevitable 'buy a new amp' suggestion

Hey there! I'm not really an expert on pickups...In fact i've tried hardly any at all

HOWEVER I came across this website the other day as I too am looking to wire up some new pups http://www.axetec.co.uk/guitar_parts_uk_069.htm.

I heard good things about them and thought I'd check them out, the main reason why I think it might be helpful is because they have recorded a short riff with every pick up they have made. So you can get a better idea of what you're getting.

At least I found it interesting anywho

As a side note, the pickups Paul Gilbert use are pretty awesome https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5QWODzgEq0

Fender Custom Shop '69s or Fender Noiseless would be my two recommendations. I've had both in my strat and was very satisfied.
