I have a younger friend of the family. (He's in his early teens; I'm in my mid-20s.) He is looking at buying his second electric guitar. He has found a used Schetcher SGR C-1 Solo model for $180 -- which seems a good price.

I've done a bit of research, and my thoughts are that it looks to be a good guitar. Since it is used, I will probably teach him the basics of setup and such, so that it feels comfortable for him to play. I have been playing for 10 years and generally do my own repairs, so I feel confident I can do any minor work.

Anyway, here's some of the features of the guitar:
  • Basswood body
  • 25.5" Scale bolt-on maple neck
  • Rosewood fretboard with 24 medium frets
  • SGR by Schecter Diamond Plus humbuckers
  • Schecter TOM w/ thru-body bridge
  • Schecter high quality tuners
  • Black chrome hardware

He is looking to play a lot of rock/hard rock. So, I feel like this is a good guitar for my young friend. Any thoughts/advice in regards to this particular guitar (or line of guitars)?

It's basically an Omen 6. I dunno if I'd pay $180 for a used one, though, I thought they retailed new for something close to that. Personally I'd troll for a better used C-1 in the $250 range.

Nothing wrong with that guitar, though. My Omen plays great.
