im struggling to write original songs,my main influence is august burns red, wondering if anyone could help me with scales ans any tips

Unless your influences are the likes of Zappa or King Crimson, I wouldn't worry too too much about learning everything about scales. Know the difference between your basic major and minor scales and you should be good. Modes are really only necessary to know if you're gonna start writing jazz :P

I've never heard August Burns Red, but Wikipedia tells me they're metalcore, so you'll probably want to use more minor than major, and I'm guessing you'll really want to work on things like rhythmic syncopation and drop tunings.
