I have a Mesa TA-15 head.
I am going to buy the matching cab. Which one, the Transatlanic 1x12in cab 19 or 23?
What is the sound difference on having a larger or smaller cab??

The size of the cab doesn't really matter, its how many speakers are in it.

The TA19 is awesome because it's a super lightweight cab. When I was looking at getting a 112 cab it was at the top of my list for that reason.

I say if you're going to get a 112, get the lightest one you can. Otherwise just get a 212. But that's just me.

If it was closed back I would say the 23 might sound a bit fuller. Its taller and wider but the same depth. Since it's an open back 112 I'd say the difference is negligible. Mesa's website says they are just a 3lb difference too.

They might have just made them in 2 widths to fit 2 different ranges of Mesa mini heads. But I really don't know.

edit

The TA heads are 17 1/4" wide the combos are 22 7/8". So I'm guessing they had to have 2 slightly different sizes for that alone. Combos can sit on top of the bigger 112 and the heads can sit on the smaller one and it matches up. Seriously doubt the cabs sound any different.

The closed back cab will have a little more directional sound projection, and will be a little tighter sounding.

true dat. Love me some closed back cabs. But I think the cabs the OP are looking at are both open back.

Oh, got the impression one was closed and one was open.

Generally, larger cabs are a little deeper sounding.
