Have an opportunity to pick up either a Takamine G230 or Yamaha FG 700GS. Both are in nice condition and the price is the same for both-$80. Have no experience with acoustics, so I was wondering which one would be the better overall guitar? I know there will be some "just buy both" posts, but I only need one at this point in time. Thank you for your help.

Trust your hands and your ears. You will know.
"Your sound is in your hands as much as anything. It's the way you pick, and the way you hold the guitar, more than it is the amp or the guitar you use." -- Stevie Ray Vaughan

"Anybody can play. The note is only 20 percent. The attitude of the motherfucker who plays it is 80 percent." -- Miles Davis

Cajun- will the build quality and materials used be fairly comparable?

yes, they will be. i prefer the sound of yamahas at this price range, but both are well made guitars. are these used? if so, there could be a difference as to condition.

I just looked in my Oxford English Dictionary and under "Acoustic Guitar", there was your Avatar and an email address!

Yes build quality will be similar but guitars vary even within model runs. One will stand out as you play it. Trust your senses.

Yes, they are both used. Judging from the pictures and description, he has taken care of them quite nicely.
