Since so very few of you have any comprehension of EDM and think it is a genre in and of itself, I hope those that do can use this thread as a platform of education, and post about which genres of EDM you like or are involved in and perhaps one or two examples.

You all know I'm a Dubstep guy, but what about you?

Oh cool. Somebody is all butthurt about what they think is a genre/subgenre.

It's 2009 Pit regarding metal all over again.

And as we all learned then, this will certainly be a productive thread.

EDM was a blanket term I used, like metal and rock and jazz and classical.
Metal refers to one genre of music. As does Rock and Jazz.

EDM does not.

Wrong on all counts. I am merely here to educate

Prog house mostly.
The plan was to drink until the pain over.
But what's worse, the pain or the hangover?
Who am I? I'm a titan so be expectin' a clash.

No Trap. Poll is void.
This is why I don't like arguing on the internet.

Silence. I'll respect it as an artform but it doesn't mean I have not hate it with every fiber of my being.

I'd honestly fap to anything with a set of genitals as long as I find it aesthetically appealing.

I'd just thought to myself that I forgot Trap.

Trap & Footwork are sadly noticeable exceptions from my poll.

What makes you hate it?

Considering you're all about tonal possibilities it would figure that electronic music would be your thing

I like the stuff that sounds like robots having an orgy
Whats goes around must come down

What did you find funny about it?

Him talking about tonal possibilities when electronic music probably has the largest tonal and timber range of any genre

How can you even hear music with your head so far up your ass?

Am I educated yet? I can't tell.

Unfortunately I'm waiting on people to post more examples of music and explain what genre they are so that some of the people unfamiliar with the genres in EDM can get a feel for what they like, seek out more and get a hold on what's what. I recognize EDM can be very confusing when you're unaware of what certain terms mean.

Also, I missed Techno off my poll!

Classical music is better than EDM Will. I don't wanna get into an argument but

harmony and form >>>>> "sound"

It's very sad to hear you feel that way.

Unfortunately for you, humanity is always moving forward and classical music will be but a relic. As will the music I love, but that's not really a problem for me
#27
ambient or dubstep

i like trip hop more than both tho, but idk if that would be grouped in with EDM as a whole

I don't disagree, but I kinda do. I don't think either genres will ever be a relic tbh.

Harmony and form is just theory not the overall finished product.

There are genres that began in 1990 that are relics. Don't be so confident.

Classical has been around for 700 years and it's only grown in popularity.

I imagine music post-singularity will be absolutely nothing like it is now so I guess you're right Will.

I like bits of everything but I'd go with idm or braindance or whatever you want to call it, so 'other'.
Dubstep and future garage are close runners up though, and "ambient" (even though the stuff I like is mostly active listening so I don't like calling it ambient).

edit: actually I've changed my mind and I'm going with future garage.
