I will be taking a year of absence at college in order to find myself. In this year, I will need to find a way to earn enough to survive ($500 a month) so that I may not starve and wither away. What is a great way to make $500-600 part time? (I would like not to work more than 48 hours per month if possible)
I'll lay waiting, just waiting for my time to come

What does "finding yourself" entail?

I'm not sure what other options there are for temporary part time jobs other than retail/fast food.

You sound like you're just lazy. You want to work 12 hours a week, and you're taking a year off school? If you're really going to take a year off school, work full time at a restaurant or a and take a fucking nature hike on your day off to "find yourself." Better yet, stay in school and still work a full time job.

You find out who you are by seeing what kind of a person you are when you are under pressure, not scraping by because you're not willing to put in any effort.

Yah, you don't "find yourself," you come to realize what makes you happy and work hard to become the person you want to be. You make yourself.

You don't want to work more than 48 hours per month? Get real, buddy. If you want to be able to live, you have to put in some effort and actually work.

On average, I get 20 hours a week at my job PLUS I'm in school. I'm making just a tad under $8.00/hour and that's just about $650/month for 80 hours. Unless you get that pays $10.50+/hour (most are minimum wage part-time, currently), you wouldn't get by. Besides, you're not even considering money in your pocket for food at stuff.

Unless you work full-time for a few months, you won't e able to do it.

There you are, right there in front of your computer.
Work a part time job while you're in college and save your money to go traveling when you're finished.
This "finding myself" is bullshit, you just have to roll up your sleeves and work for what you want. That's how you find out what kind of person you are, by seeing how hard you are willing to work for your goals.
Not by sitting with a finger up your ass waiting on an epiphany.

Or you could whore your anus out for $50 an hour, but that would be rolling your sleeves up a bit too much, nobody wants to find themselves that much.

You are yourself, and you really ought to find yourself at work out in school if you aim to remain yourself.

Read some Jack Kerouac and then a few months later you'll realize that "finding yourself" is a waste of time.

Exactly. You want to find yourself? Stay in school. Get up at 4 or 5 in the morning for class, and work until midnight. If you can keep that up, you found out more about yourself than you would in a year of navel gazing introspection.

Man, you are wasting your time.

If you want to find yourself here are a few ideas.

1) Work for a while at a good job full time and then with that money go travel. Go see some different places, have some different experiences and maybe you will find yourself that way.

2) Work a full time job for the entire year and save up some money while you figure out what you want to do next. This way your not pissing your time away. Finding yourself does not mean tossing off to internet porn and smoking weed all day.

3) Work for the whole year and try and find a career path that interests you. Do some research, job shadow some people. Then next year, go to school and get a job in that career path down the road. Doesn't have to be university, could be college or a trade. Again, if you work the whole year you will likely have the funds to do this.

Don't waste your time man, you're better than that. Im not sure what exactly the reason for needing to find yourself, but I do know that doing absolutely nothing to advance your life forward for a whole year will lead nowhere.

Just pick a direction and go. 'Nowhere' is not a direction.

Taking a year off to 'find yourself' sounds romantic and fun in theory, but in practice it isn't going to be. You will be bored as **** I promise. Go live your life dude, doing nothing at all for a whole year is not living your life.

You cant find yourself and you cant find out what your about without going and gaining some experiences and doing things to narrow down what you are about.

You might want to look in the mirror.

Really all of this spiritual "I have to find myself" crap is just an excuse to do whatever the **** you want for a year. let's be real.

I've never gone out and tried to "find myself" because I'm not an idiot who doesn't know himself.

I can totally relate man. But you won't get 10.50 per hour so either you could work more or reduce your expenses. A great way to do that and still travel is to become a hobo like me. Just the open road, walking wherever you want and do whatever you want to do. I would say go for it.
