I don't know much about this stuff but I am looking to purchase a gift for a friend. I am looking to purchase a set of nice tuning pegs for him. His electric guitar is right handed and has 3 tuning pegs on the top and 3 on the bottom. So my question is, do I need to purchase 6 right handed tuning pegs or 3 left and 3 right? Thanks for the help.

You would buy "3 per side" tuning pegs.

^This. If you get "Six Right-Hand Tuners," you would have a set for a Fender-style guitar with all of the tuners in a line. You want a "3+3" set.

I would also venture that talking to him first might be a good idea...he may be partial to the type/brand of tuner he uses and if he has spent good money for Gotoh or Grover, he may not want to swap them out. I may be completely wrong here, but just a thought...
