I just heard "21st Century Schizoid Man" by King Crimson and it's the first song iv'e heard in a while that has made me go "Shit, that's amazing". It's Jazzy, but also has a sort of proto-metal sound to it, it wouldn't sound out of place on a Black Sabbath album but it predates Sabbath. What music has blown you away recently ?

And of course the first time I heard Magnum and realized how good lyrics really can enhance music in so many ways.

Lindsey Buckingham's playing. Specifically on Go Insane and Big Love.

Hell yeah.

Seeing Savages at Reading last year was a complete revelation. Before then I thought their album was just good, you know, Joy Division with a girl singer. But the intensity of the performance blew me away. It was just a complete wall of sound and atmosphere for about an hour. Absolutely everyone in that tent left shaking their heads trying to digest how much their lives had been changed.

Especially at about the 0:33 mark.
And what is more, there's been a bloody purple nose and some bloody purple clothes that were messing up the lobby floor. It's just apartment house rules so all you 'partment fools remember : one man's ceiling is another man's floor.

And for the past 7-8 years I've been listening to the same 6 records since these three songs came out.

The first time I listened to Sigur Ros and heard Svefn-G-Englar on headphones while mildly stoned and staring up at the night sky. It's been almost 15 years since I bought that album and it never ceases to impress me.

How cool would it feel to be directing that many people to play something you wrote? Amazing.

In fact both these albums blew me away the last few months.

Went and bought Big Star's Third the week after I heard it.

XO by Elliott Smith is one of the best albums I've ever heard.

Also this and the entire album as well.

The only one I remember is some Massive Attack record. It was pretty amazing the first time.

I found it on some Top 10 UG list. They are not always bullcrap after all.
