This is kind of a stupid thread but I'm very curious... Do you think when Kurt Coban played a power chord (for example, a C5) do you think he hit the low E string? I mean come on, he strummed like a maniac...

Yes, but he muted it. If you mute correctly, then only the power chord will ring out even if you hit all the strings.

watch SRV for another example of someone who wails with his right hand strumming but manages to only hit the key notes. The trick is muting unwanted strings with the left hand.
