First of all i need to say that up until now i just played my guitar though a regular amp so i'm new to all of this musical equipment.
So i recently purchased pod 500x and i have a few problems connecting everything.
I want my monitors to be connected to my pc and the pod at the same time so i could hear the both.
I don't want to use the pod as my sound card and connect the monitors to the pod because the master volume on the pod controls the volume of the pc and the pod but if i lower the the volume on the pc only the pc signal will lower and the output from the pod will stay the same, and i don't really want to adjust the volume on the pod and bend under my desk each time .

I also want to connect my headphones the same way .

Someone told me that the solution might be to buy a small mixer and to connect my headphones and my monitors to the output and my pc and pod and mic to the input, and control the volume from there.
will it really work? if it does how do i connect my pc to it? can someone reccommend a small cheap mixer that will do the job? or is there other solution ?

Another thing is that i will buy studio monitors in order to use them with the pod and the pc.
How will i connect them with the mixer ? balanced or unbalanced? xlr? or other way?

this is good advice if you don't want to use the HD500 as an external sound card

it will work very well, controlling multiple sound inputs and producing a single audio output is what mixers do

you'd run your 'headphone out' into the mixer. you generally have multiple options as to how you can send the headphone out to the mixer (i generally use a 1/8" trs to rca adapter, but you can get something like a 1/8" TRS to a split 1/4" TS Y-cable)

depends on the quality of sound you want, you can get a cheap unit for like 50 bucks

or you can get a nicer simple unit like a mackie for about a hundred

a mixer is the most straight forward method i can think of

you have plenty of options (and it will depend on the mixer you have). for example, one way of connecting it all together would be to run 1/8" TRS to rca converter to run the computer into the 'tape in' on the mixer, then connect the HD500 using a single 1/4 TRS cable into the first channel. then you'd run two TRS cables from the 'Main Out' on the mixer to the studio monitors.

depends on the outputs the mixer provides and the inputs the studio monitors need. it is impossible to tell you how to connect a mixer you don't have and an unspecified set of studio monitors.
