That seems to be the standard. You're gonna need a friend with a real Mac though to get the boot USB drive working.

Got a friend with the mac, seems to me that was the easiest part. I'm still not sure if my Dell will manage to handle it though :/

Yes, I have Mavericks running flawlessly on a little Sandy Bridge system. It's real easy to do if you plan your hardware purchases accordingly.

At one point I also had it running on my main desktop which uses an AMD 8350 and it ran perfectly, but I couldn't figure out how to get the bootloader installed so I scraped it.

Did it on my old computer. There were some driver errors, but i got most things working pretty well. It would freeze sometimes though.

Made me realize how much i really hate mac's whole interface and file system.
