Hi guys! Sadly my HT5 has passed away, and fixing it is going to be almost as expensive as the amp itself. With that, I'm looking for a new amp so would appreciate some help!

Budget? - up to £250

Genres? - Mainly hard rock at the moment. A bit of metal (I have an OCD and a Bad Monkey to help). Potentially christian music in the future, so at least a close approximation to a clean sound would be nice

New or Used? - Happy to go used

Home or Gig? - Both. Small gigs/churches though so could definitely get away with a 5W if need be

Closest City? - I'm in Guildford, so London is a possibility

Current Gear? - Ibanez S470/Westfield Les paul (with absurdly metal pickups, tuned to D standard)
Bad Monkey, Fulltone OCD, TC Nova Repeater.

Built in reverb might be cool but not necessary. The amp does need an FX loop though. Also, I'd like a head as I have some cabs already.

Thanks guys!

jet city is under budget for the head versions on thomann or the UK jet city online store. cleans might be the problem.

VK is a good shout too if the cleans are very important. but the jet city is better for the dirt (and still has reasonable cleans, just not tons of headroom).

Only on UG would I say I got engaged and bought a jet city and get congratulated on the amp

Was about to suggest the facebook page
TS, if you have facebook, join this group and give a search around, a fair few amps pop up here. Search up: UK GUITAR / AMP / GEAR EXCHANGE

Always on there myself, haha.

Some good stuff on there but most of it is overpriced IMO.

Fender Vibro Champ XD

A surprisingly musical amp with a lot of different personalities and useful effects. Lots of gain on tap but she doesn't go full metal shred to my ears. 5 watts tube. David Gilmour and The Edge tones for days.
"Your sound is in your hands as much as anything. It's the way you pick, and the way you hold the guitar, more than it is the amp or the guitar you use." -- Stevie Ray Vaughan

"Anybody can play. The note is only 20 percent. The attitude of the motherfucker who plays it is 80 percent." -- Miles Davis

Thanks for the responses guys! That gear FB page is going to ruin me!

I'm leaning towards the Jet City over the Valveking at the moment. I've played the VK before and been relatively unimpressed. The Jet City is quite dirty and a true clean sound doesn't look that do-able. However, thinking about my style it might suit me, as I'm normally looking for a slightly overdriven clean sound. Also, my picking dynamic range is pretty big, so I'd imagine I can clean it up at least a bit.

Plenty of time to ponder this though as I can't afford to replace it just yet!

Again, thanks for your responses.

I did see a JCA100 for £200 and a couple 2x12's that would work well with it for a couple hundred each too. I'll see if theres anything cheaper but decent though.

Oh did see a Spider valve mk2 for £200 i think it was..

Nice, so it's under warranty then?

It was not, but apparently the fix for this specific problem classes as a service update. Hooray!
