If not, WHY THE **** DOESN'T THIS EXIST? How freaking awesome would it be to play 1984: The Video Game? Huh? You start out as a regular citizen? It could speak loads on freedom since it's open world and stuff. Rockstar should develop this, they'd do it most justice.

Anyway, if it does exist please tell me about it now. If not, tell me how great my idea is and give us your best video game idea.

Open world game in which you would not allowed to go anywhere because there is no freedom.

Also Rockstar suck at open worlds.

I'd say Mirror's Edge but that's linear. It should never happen because unless it came from one of the top tier developers, it'd be a shit smear on the original.

In terms of ideas for video games, I'd like to see:

- a game where it's almost pitch dark and small areas of light and shadows are all you have to traverse around a structurally hostile environment
- first person parkour that flows well
- Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy without the ridiculous second half (this happened to Condemned II as well, and Fahrenheit was one of the few QTE centered games that even slightly worked)
- a horror game that uses gore and jump scares that isn't laughably unsubtle

Sorry you know so many open world games that this popular developer who made some of the best and most loved games ever don't impress you.

It's bad to adapt stories to video games imo. Two different formats that don't work together (even though everyone in the universe wants them to).

it's really hard to market an open-world game, which is by nature expensive, that doesn't have combat

i also dont think rockstar is mature enough to write a game like that

Give me something like Baldur's Gate which does a much deeper open world with story and character development and being able to go inside buildings than simply a lot of roads where you can run over hookers.

Failing that give me Just Cause 2

You can literally most of that in GTA without the violence. But you can also go out and shoot people. Or go out and help the police. Or whatever. Hence the orwellian theme in an open world game that I think should be exploited.

Basically I want GTA under Big Brother. Is that too much to ask?

What if you were a cop and as you go out on cases slowly begin to unravel the world you're living in?

you have to define Big Brother first to make it come in. In an Orwellian world Big Brother is not existant physically. Its everywhere, but no where.

I'm liking this idea. It makes sense why rebels would approach you in the game cuz of your position. The reason I wanted an average joe type thing is that the player could choose sides and stuff kinda like Infamous (although not with a points system)

I just mean an authoritarian system. Checkpoints, underground rebellion, cult of personality, censorship and propaganda, sweeping police powers, secret police and so on. Doesn't have to be "guy goes to work, reads, eats chocolate, falls in love". Let it be indulgent and satirical by all means, doesn't matter what type of system exactly.

It's not an open world game, but City-17 from Half-Life 2 definitely had some Orwellian themes to it.

I thought so too.

Half-Life 2 has City 17 which is basically the city in 1984. Not really an open-world game though because you can't backtrack or go wherever you want from the beginning.

EDIT: ^^^pshhh **** you guys

how 'bout the opposite? the game starts with the main character waking up on a cot in a barracks surrounded by similar people. you find out the barracks are in an underground bunker complex. the group of people surrounding you (and yourself), you eventually discover, are the people being selected to be the next world leaders. you have to do whatever you can, by participating in combat drills, puzzles, logic games, to beat everyone else and become the supreme leader.

that's game 1. the thing is, they don't tell you all that information. you simply find out more and more as the game develops. eventually, you're getting sent out to the real world on missions and tests and such.
