Obama is the antichrist sent to destroy America. How dare he exist!

Also, I quite like him. If I were American, I'd probably sign up.

What exactly is ObamaCare, anyways? Is it like an opt-in socialist type of health care? I never understood it. Canada don't have that shit.

My aunt recently was diagnosed with breast cancer and she is able to get treatment because of Obamacare. She lost her house in Hurricane Sandy and she makes no money from her business. Whenever people (republicans) talk about how Obamacare is evil, the worst thing to happen to America, I get so ****ing angry as it's the only thing that is getting my aunt the treatment she needs to fight breast cancer. They're basically saying they want her and millions of others like her to die because they don't want to pay an extra few dollars a year.

Obamacare has great intentions, but in the spirit of america, no one in this country should accept it. as a democratic-republic and HOME OF THE FREE, we should leave the FREEDOM of WE THE PEOPLE to chose how we spend our money and deal with our risks. this doesn't just apply to Obamacare, but also to every government sponsered/created program, such as mandatory car insurance, food stamps, unemployment and every other handout our country gives out. and before i get blasted, i currently live below the poverty line, and have several times been in these programs via my parents. this doesnt change my feelings on these programs that take away our liberties to our LIFE, LIBERTY AND PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS

Edit

would be nice to see if you or someone you know got a severe disease and see if you'd still call it part of the pursuit for life liberty and happiness.

I'd rather like to pick up my 50 foot pole and use it to not go near this subject, but doing something for the spirit of the country rather than the good of the people in it seems silly.

Not entirely sure how, say, dying from diabetes because you can't afford to pay for insulin, is conducive to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

As a Swede, I have not really grasped what Obamacare is. At first I thought "Great, the US now have free healthcare", but that doesn't seem anywhere near what it actually is.

I'm not sure if the videos with people on the streets shouting that Obama is a communist is some kind of joke. Being a Swede his politics are still so right leaning by my understanding that I really can't grasp the concept of someone being even more right-leaning.

Free healthcare for everyone should be a human right.

Left side relative to your average. In most European countries he would be on the right side of the average.

I never understood when people from Canada say "EH GOT MY FREE HEALTHCARE". Do they not know where the funding for their "free" healthcare comes from? Don't get me wrong I love our system more than making healthcare into private businesses, but it isn't free. It's socialist.

I agree.

If this country had its shit together with financial institutions and public accountability surrounding the US currency, healthcare wouldn't be an issue.
#31
Nah. I was really hopeful when Obama brought up healthcare reform that maybe we'd get socialized care like the rest of the developed world, but instead we got this "healthcare market" thing since apparently capitalism has to be stuffed into everything. I'm disappointed in it, but at least it brought our terrible care system into the spotlight so hopefully people will be more willing to try and fix it.

It's basically a bandaid fix to the current health care market. The point is that people who don't have care can get it. Which is great, but it's such a bloated and over-reaching system that it's very problematic. Even Obama supporters can't deny that "ObamaCare" is a terrible bill. The idea of the bill was to reduce healthcare costs overall, however...the designers of the bill apparently don't understand how the market works. Because the bill actually increased the cost of healthcare.

There was also the debacle where the government Healthcare website was designed VERY poorly. Companies like Google and Microsoft had to step to help the badly trained government website designers/programmers. This bad design also resulted in some people losing money, because hackers could steal credit card info from the Healthcare site.

So...at this point, no one is really impressed at all. Even the president doesn't talk up the bill anymore.

As far as I know anything about this it seems that the bill had the be watered down so much in order to get it to pass that it's lost most of it's brilliance. Nevertheless it's a step in the right direction

Watered down: "to reduce the effectiveness or force of something"

a.k.a. its final form has far less effect in terms of achieving what it's supposed to achieve than it was originally intended to be.
