sounds like its in the key of A with capo first fret. chords should be A D and E

By the way, depending where you look and on who they state does this song it is called by at least two different names and there may be one or two more

If you look under johnny cash and his discography it is called A SONG TO MAMA

if you look under the carter family or carter sisters it is called DEAR MAMA

I have also seen it called A SONG FOR MAMA, and I think another one...

Also, some of the versions song by the CARTER sisters are song in a different key...
So if you are playing along with one of those records you will either need a capo or transpose the chords I have used... And since there are three chords to the song they would occur in the same places but with different chords...
