Got a bare bones stock 5150 got the new JJ's high gain
retube kit on the way so that's covered. Want recommendations of speaker combos other than the
norm to give the old Sheffields a break. Also my budget
for work on the amp period is 500 USD. What else is a
suggested need or upgrade to this amp as this
is a different beast to my other two. Genre is Metal
and all its Subforms. Thanks Ryan

I like v30s in general for that kinda stuff so maybe a couple WGS v30 clones.
If you like experimenting, I'd try a v30 + an h30.
Name's Luca.

Clue: amplifiers amplify so don't turn it on if you need quiet.

V30s all the way. Maybe a V30 WGS clone with a WGS Invader.
Gibson RD Silverburst w/ Lace Dissonant Aggressors (SOLD)
Electra Omega Prime Ceruse
Fender Franken-Jag Bass

Amps and the like:
Laney VH100R
Seismic Luke 2x12
Dunlop 105Q Wah
Gojira FX 808

Eminence Governor + Swamp Thang

Or

Celestion V30 + G12k-100 if you want to spend more.

Either combo sounds massive and has lots of bite.

Mxr 10-band EQ is really nice to have. I also prefer to have a boost up front and drop the preamp gain below 4-5. That makes your sound tighter yet with more clarity and note definition. It also allows you to get the amp' s best tone a little earlier on the volume spectrum. I use a TS-9, but there are many others that work equally well.

As for noise gates, I recommend the Boss ns-2, using the four-cable method which gates the guitar and non-loop pedals AND your effects loop (or more importantly, your preamp, which causes most of the noise). You can get insane staccato/start-stop riffing if you set the threshold to max and the decay to minimum, but to me it sounds best when those knobs are facing each other.

Right on I've got clean boosts and Od's for days
the ten band be a better buy than the 6? And what
about ISP gates or can the boss do the same job
cheaper?

Yes, the 10-band is a much better buy than the 6. Not only because you'll actually use the extra range of adjustment, the 10-band additionally has volume and gain sliders which help you balance the pedal with your rig.

I have not tried any other noise gates/limiters, but I say the Boss does an excellent job. Some say they hear tone suck but I think it's in their imagination.

There is no tone suck. Not even worth mentioning because it brings up doubt for no reason.

Agree 100% on the 10 band. The 6 Band is not worth considering. Any EQ without a level slider is not worth considering.

For speakers, get a pair of WGS Veteran 30s. V30s are overpriced and don't sound as good as Vet 30s. IMO.

+1 on the MXR 10 band. Cuts the fizz and makes low volume doable if you need it. I use an ISP Decimator last in the loop with mine but never used the Boss.
