I have a guitar with an original floyd rose. The high E continually breaks at the nut. Over and over, within days of changing it, every single time. My better judgement tells me there's some kind of sharp edge on the nut. Or I'm clamping down too hard when I tighten the keys. Is there an easy fix for this that doesn't involve going to a guitar shop and having someone else do it for me?
Look at the nut. can you see any burrs or feel any sharp edges? Either lightly sand it or order a replacement. I personally have never had strings snap at the nut and i clamp down like a mofo.
^This. I'm the same. Mine generally go at the bridge.
