"Melodic hardcore"

The best one I've heard was "Shoe gazer music."

There is rock, jazz, C&W and classical.
The rest of that shit is pop.

But general rule of guitar buying applies.

Find a guitar you like playing, play music you like on it.

You know how those bands play those sparkly broken chords and have them ring out for so long? Only way to do that is with a Schecter C-6 with 10 holes drilled into the neck.

The SG models (Gibson AND Epiphone) are very well suited for that style in my opinion. I play an Epiphone SG Special out of a Roland Cube and Marshall MG. The guitar gives off incredible mid range frequencies. If you want to sound heavier, use a Les Paul. I wouldn't recommend Stratocasters. Their sound gets too old soon. It's nothing special in my opinion. What tuning are you planning to play in?

And if you're not playing through and Orange Thunderverb whilst in a field you are not melodic hardcore enough.

Psh. Melodic Hardcore isn't even hardcore. Its all about that Subterranean Nu-Age Neo-Christian Pentatonic Technical Slam Shred Djentcore Math Metal. You guys all have terrible taste in music.

I have an Orange DLX 35. Does that count? I think it sounds pretty crappy though. I wanna sell it and work up for a Messa Boogie Dual Rectifier or another Marshall. Maybe a Peavey.

One of those JAzzcasters eveyones always talking about. Go to a Guitar Center and try out a shit ton of guitars through an amp most similar to yours and find one that fits well with what YOU write. Unless your planning on trying to join Defeater
Decepticons everywhere, decepticons everywhere.

Thanks for the vote of confidence.
At least I can play and have been for 45 years.

What are you doing? Oh yeah...calling strangers idiots.

Melodic Hardcore is hardcore with melody...

What's not to get?

And shoegaze has been a thing since the 90's...

Which most likely means you're in your 50s or even possibly 60s. You know what I call that? Sad. Trolling on an internet forum at your age. What a joke. I've been a musician since I was 6 years old. 14 years with violin, 7 with guitar. Fuck you.

Excellent comeback.

Pick a persons age as a fault - zing. The good part is I am the same age as Al DiMeola, so I hung out with my friend as a kid in NJ and learned how to play guitar.

Assume a troll - I made a comment on how to someone of my age saw the classifications younger players use are funny and you went off.

I started at 8 years old, so good for you - you will have more practice in. That's a good thing. Your sense of humor is awful, though. You'll have a tough time if this is how you react outside forums. Me? I am the same here or in a studio.
Longer is better.

As far as instruments I have studied:
Piano
Clarinet
Sax
Violin
Guitar

Anything else?
Don't be so angry, you'll live longer.

Doesn't matter how impressive your musical credentials are... it doesn't stop Melodic Hardcore being a thing.

Dear purist, nobody likes you, go **** yourself.

OP:

Best guitar? I'd say a tie between Stratocaster and Les paul, after that it's up to you.
