This thread is delightful. I'm actually reading a book about how the English smuggled tea plants and seeds out of China in the mid 1800s, and established the tea industry in India.

Fun fact: Chai is the Hindi word for tea, so when one says "chai tea" they're being redundant.

And yeah, the tea smuggling trade during the Qing Dynasty is pretty fascinating. Read a fair amount about it last semester.

I haven't. I've had the black+green mix, and enjoyed it.

I love their Dragon Phoenix Pearls jasmine white tea.

correction: brits traded our awesome tea for ...opium. =_=

Yes, until Robert Fortune stole plans and seeds for the East India Company. He also brought expert Chinese tea growers and producers to India to help teach their methods to others. That's when the Indian tea plantations were created, which made the China tea trade less vital.

m8, that isn't even tea!

I like it too, but that doesn't change the fact that it isn't tea.

Tea, Earl Grey. Hot.

I was going to disagree with this, but then I remembered that I hate it when people put sauce on a steak.

So instead I will agree.

There's probably some weird technicality about how it isn't 'proper tea' the same way that mint tea is technically an herbal infusion and not a tea. But it's packaged as tea, and it's brewed like tea, so take that!

If it doesn't come from the Camellia sinensis plant, it isn't tea.

I'm just giving you a hard time. I'd probably just call it an herbal tea.
